Sermon: Conflicts in Christian Ministry

CONFLICTS IN CHRISTIAN MINISTRY

(This is the outline of the sermon video I posted a few days ago about the conflict between Paul and Barnabas. I pray the video and this outline will be a blessing to you.)

Acts 15:36-41 “Some time later Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us go back and visit the believers in all the towns where we preached the word of the Lord and see how they are doing.”37 Barnabas wanted to take John, also called Mark, with them,38 but Paul did not think it wise to take him, because he had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in the work.39 They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus,40 but Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the believers to the grace of the Lord.41 He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.”

Main thought: God can bring blessing out of all the conflicts or challenges we face.CONTINUE READING

Sermon: The Parable of the Persistent Widow and Her Successful Appeal (Luke 18)

(This is a brief sermon outline taken from ‘The Parable of the Persistent Widow’ (Luke 18:1-8))

Main Thought –We should always pray and not give up (18:1)

From this Parable, we will look at 4 reasons why we can and should persist in prayer. They are as follows;

The persistent widow came to a wicked Judge; we come to a loving Father (18:2,7)

  • The Judge was extremely evil and we should never compare him with God.

“In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men”. (18:1)

  • God is totally the opposite to this wicked Judge

“Will not God bring about justice for His chosen ones, who cry out to Him day and night? (18:7)

Handling Unpleasant Assignments in Ministry

“Palitha, you may have difficulty in continuing with the choir”.  Something similar to those words, were spoken to me by our Choir Director; one of my closest mentors. I had always loved music and one of the first ministries I signed up for, after accepting Jesus, was the choir. But now, my Choir Director had to break the unpleasant news to me. I apparently had a problem with correctly pitching musical notes.

As I look back upon that encounter, what I remember most is the grace and love with which the Choir Director handled what was obviously an unpleasant task. I might have otherwise given up on ministry altogether.CONTINUE READING

A Church that Glorifies God

We know that many ingredients need to be put together to make a good curry or bake a good cake. Similarly, for a church to be one that glorifies God, there are certain ingredients that need go into that community. Acts 2:42-47 gives us some idea about the ingredients that are required for the Body of Christ to glorify God.

7 Characteristics from the Acts 2 Church:

This video sermon was preached recently in Sri Lanka at one of our services and It is based on Acts 2:42-47. It covers 7 characteristics needed to glorify God and is a powerful example for us to follow!

Easter: 4 Inspiring Thoughts On The Resurrection

Introduction

As we approach Easter, I would like to base this sermon outline on 1 Corinthians 15, which is one of the most important chapters in the Bible. From this chapter, I will be sharing 4 vital truths penned by the Apostle Paul on the resurrection. They are:

1) The Resurrection is an established fact

From verses 5-8, Paul lists those who actually saw the Lord Jesus after the Resurrection. In fact, this passage reveals at least 5 appearances of Christ after the Resurrection, besides His appearance to Paul himself. These had to be vibrant, real-life encounters as those who saw the risen Christ were willing to lay down their lives joyfully for Him (Refer verse 30-33)  . The amazing thing is that they were willing to do so even though no noticeable, tangible benefits would seemingly accrue to them!!

The Victorious Power of the Cross Is Yours Today (Colossians 2:13-15)

A visual of 3 crosses to show the power of the cross of Jesus Christ

Introduction: It is said that Billy Graham once attributed the large number of responses to his sermons on one central theme. It was, that he always drew attention in his sermons to the Lord Jesus Christ and to ‘the power of the cross’.

As we draw close to Good Friday, it’s good to remind ourselves of the power of the cross and what the Lord accomplished through His mighty sacrifice. Although the cross was a symbol of execution at that time (much like an electric chair today), God’s saving power in full was revealed at the cross. It symbolized the greatest rescue mission the world has ever seen!!

From Colossians 2:13-15, I would like to leave 3 thoughts about ‘The Power of the Cross’ in this sermon outline. They are:

Video Sermon: Being a Witness for Jesus

This 5 point video sermon, focusing on being a witness for Christ, is part of a series on the Book of Acts, being covered at People’s Church in Sri Lanka. May it challenge you as you watch. The video starts with the powerful singing of Desmond Fernando, singing ‘The Blood of Jesus’ and ‘God of the Mountains’. I love his voice!
